Preparing for Your Photoshoot: What NOT to Do

As you prepare for your boudoir photo shoot with Celebrate Your Sexy, you’re likely feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness, a little bit of a thrill and a little bit of “what the heck was I thinking?!” That’s all normal! And as the day gets closer, you’re working out all the details: you’ve made your hair and makeup appointments, you’ve pinned gorgeous lingerie options and ordered a few new pretty things (take a look our lingerie guides for ideas at any price!), and you’ve viewed our galleries and started following us on Instagram to see all of our gorgeous clients. The excitement is building!

But as your boudoir session gets closer there are a few things to keep in mind as things to NOT do.

  1. HAIR REMOVAL

How ever you choose to personally groom yourself in this way is entirely up to you! All we ask is that you don’t do any type of hair removal less than three days prior to your photoshoot. Hair removal methods like waxing, depilatories, and even shaving can leave your skin red and bumpy. Not exactly the look you’re going for! Hair removal is fine, but please give your skin a few days to settle down prior to your photoshoot.

  2. TANNING

We all love how we look and feel with a tan. The problem with self-tanning before a photoshoot is that often your skin can turn out looking orange after retouching. Also, we’ve seen it leave behind orange streaks on the white bedding in our 5-star suites, which can totally ruin a gorgeous shot! Sun-tanning gets tricky because it’s very difficult for us to edit out sunburns and tan lines. Between the natural lighting we use and the light editing our digital artists will do to enhance your images, your final images will have the soft, smooth, ethereal skin you’re looking for. Our digital artists are so skilled at retouching your beautiful images to smooth your skin and give you gorgeous, glowing skin and altering your skin tone with tanning – from a bottle or the sun – can interfere with this.

  3. DRINKING

We know you’re nervous and excited about your big day and that you may be tempted to calm your nerves with a few drinks. But usually intoxication is very apparent in professional photography; eyes get glossy and bloodshot and your posing can look awkward and unnatural. And going out the night before is also not recommended. It’s very hard to celebrate your sexy while nursing a hangover!

  4. DRASTIC CHANGES TO YOUR LOOK

A fresh haircut, new hair color, or recent fillers are all reasons clients have asked to reschedule their photoshoot – which is devastating after all of that planning and anticipation! Sometimes hair color can leave marks on your skin around your hairline, which will show up in professional photography. A fresh haircut can often feel too short or not cooperate with the look you’re going for. Fresh fillers and Botox need time for your skin to recover from bruising and puffiness. If you do choose to do these things, we ask that do them at least two weeks prior to your photo shoot to allow you to look and feel like your best, most natural self in your images.

  5. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, DON’T PROCRASTINATE

Our most gorgeous images are usually due to weeks of preparation from the client. Make sure you’ve selected outfits that make you feel comfortable and beautiful, that you’ve nailed down your hair and makeup look, that you’ve chosen accessories that accentuate your look, and that you’ve even thought about incorporating something personal – maybe a jersey from your partner’s favorite team, your husband’s work shirt, or even your veil.

We know that the anticipation leading up to your boudoir photo shoot can be equally exciting and nerve-wracking. But don’t worry! You are beautiful just the way you are, and you are going to have the most empowering experience of your life. You’ll leave feeling beautiful and confident and our team is here for you every step of the way!
