One of our most asked questions from our clients is, “What should I wear to my boudoir photo shoot?” We sat down with all the lovely ladies from Celebrate Your Sexy to give you the ultimate guide.
There are many different styles of lingerie, with a variety of designs to suit all body shapes and sizes. That’s one of the big reasons CYS does not provide lingerie – we want to make sure you have lingerie that fits you perfectly, and that it suits your style and body type.
The fit of your lingerie should revolve around your best assets. This is a time for you to highlight what you like best about your body, and show it off!
You know what they say – if you’ve got it, flaunt it! If you’re on the curvy side, consider a flattering bodysuit in your size with bustier style ribbing to accentuate your hourglass figure. There are many fashionable bralettes these days for ladies on the busty side, and you can always consider high waisted panties, to draw your curves in and define your waistline.
Don’t worry if you’re not super tall! The sky’s the limit for those of us on the shorter side. Consider a high-cut lace bodysuit, which will help make your legs look longer. You can also aim for high-cut underwear to elongate your legs and help you look taller overall. Don’t forget to pair your outfit with heels for that extra boost.
For the ladies out there with a more athletic build, the two-piece lingerie sets will be great for your boudoir photography session. Through the posing, you’ll be able to accentuate your lean abdomen and show off that body you’ve worked so hard to achieve. A garter belt can also help make your hips appear a little larger, lengthen your legs, and give you more curvature overall.
Pears are aware that it’s all about the derriere! Ladies with a fabulous tushie will of course want to accentuate it with cute form-fitting panties, but consider a sheer or lace slip! It will elongate you while also showing off your curves from top to that great bottom.
Apple-shaped ladies usually have broad shoulders, which can make for sexy curves. Halter tops, spaghetti straps, or even single-strap lingerie pieces can draw attention in a good way. Consider bringing a shawl or fur to drape around your shoulders to add some artistic Renaissance flair.
Baby-doll slips are fabulous for women who have legs for miles. The playful and flirty look allows for flowy fabric to create curves. If your length is in your torso, consider a high-waisted lingerie set, to shorten your torso and elongate your legs.
Busty women know many larger bra sizes tend to cover more, with designs opting for comfort rather than style. Go for bras made with sheer fabric, lace, or that are cut low on the breasts to accentuate your goodies while covering enough to add a little bit of mystery.
If you’re feeling a little small up there, just remember – the push-up bra was invented for a reason! Form fitting bustiers will show off the curves of your body while giving your bust the boost it needs to be on full display.
Whether you want to do a sexy, sultry look with black lace and garters, or a fun and sporty set with bright colors, above all, your look should reflect your personal style. Not every outfit has to be lingerie!
Here are some suggestions for outfits that are more modest, yet sexy:
- Cocktail Dress
- Fur jacket/wrap
- Suit jacket
While we don’t allow big props or intimate toys at CYS boudoir photography sessions, we encourage our clients to bring items of significance to help personalize your photographs. Here are some of our favorite examples:
- Special jewelry (Engagement/Wedding Ring, necklace, etc.)
- Dress shirt
- Uniform (if your S/O is in the military)
- Sports jersey
Accessories can dramatically change your look, so it’s great to bring beautiful pieces that match your lingerie set and outfits.
- Fashion glasses
- Hair clips/ties
- Shoes/Heels (4 pairs max)
Hair & Makeup
We do not provide hair and makeup, because we want to make sure your makeup and hair is the way you want it to be, and perfectly suits your style. If you do hire a professional for makeup and hair, we suggest doing a test run with them, to make sure they create a look you like.
Brown Eyes: Brown-eyed girls can basically wear any eye shadow color they want! Depending on your shade of brown, you might want to experiment, but hues in green, blue, and gold will help highlight your lovely bronze flecks. Pair with a dark blue or black eyeliner for dramatic effect.
Blue Eyes: When it comes to blue eyes, think autumn. Neutral shades of bronze, brown and gold will help your eye color stand out. Blue-eyed girls can also add black eyeliner for dramatic flair, or brown eyeliner for a more natural look. A gold or champagne highlighter around the eyes can add an extra sparkle.
Green Eyes: For green eyes, rather than a black eyeliner, think charcoal or brown. For eye shadow color, purple is the way to go to get that green to really pop! Experiment with other color combinations like red and burgundy tones, as well as silver or smokey grays.
Hazel Eyes: To get those flecks of green and brown to sparkle, hazel-eyed ladies should experiment with dark browns and deep purples. The best color for you will depend more on if you’re heavier on the greens, or browns, so try different hues. Green and gold eyeliner might be fun to play with, too!
Long Hair: Rapunzel Rapunzel, let down your hair! Whether you like it curly, wavy, or straight, a boudoir photo shoot is the perfect place to put those luscious locks on display. Pair thick waves with a cat eye for a sexy vixen look, or use curl-defining product to enhance your natural spirals. For straight hair, opt for more daring eye shadow colors to add drama.
Medium Length Hair: A sexy a-line haircut is great for mid-length ladies who want to show off their jaw line, and looks beautiful straight or with curls. If you’re going for a more vintage, flapper look, consider old school style finger waves.
Short Hair: Pixie cuts have been in for quite a while, and so many lovely ladies rock short hair! Most of your shaping will depend on your personal choice in style, but if you really want to be daring, consider a fun color – or two – or three! A heat changing color dye will allow you to change the color of your hair with a blow dryer, and this way, you can change it with each of your outfits too!
Curly Hair: Boudoir photography is all about celebrating you just the way you are, so rock your curls! Whether it’s a fro, tight ringlets or beachy waves, be sure to use your anti-frizz regimen and let Nature take care of the rest.
While we don’t allow intimate toys at our boudoir photography sessions, we do allow kinky accessories! Here are a few things that might be fun to bring, if it suits your style:
What Not to Bring
There are of course, many items that are not suitable for a boudoir photo shoot. Here is our list of what not to bring:
